Pensions, more urgent than ever!

From 1 July 2023, the Future of Pensions Act took effect. After more than 15 years of consultation and negotiations, the Netherlands is facing the biggest pension adjustments ever! By 1 January 2028, all pension schemes must comply with the new legislation. This will have a huge impact on employees, pensioners, employers, pension providers, and pension funds.

Not only are we going to build up pensions differently in the future, but pension funds are also going to make choices about the pension already built up. Thus, there will possibly be a redistribution of 1.500 billion euros of pension assets. But how do pension funds do this?

Besides the technical side, there are many different interests at play. No new government has yet been formed or the first debates on the Future of Pensions Act have already taken place. Experts in the newspapers and media fall over each other almost daily with different views and risks. As a result, there is growing unrest among employees and pensioners.
