For the first application round, €78 million is available. This budget is expected to cover subsidies for approximately 1,100 zero-emission trucks. The funds come from the “truck levy rebate” mechanism. A second application round will follow later in 2026 (September), with the corresponding budget to be announced at a later date.
Strong Interest in AanZET in 2025
The second subsidy round of this year, opened on 1 October, was fully subscribed within 24 hours. For the available budget of €30 million, applications totaling €36.6 million were submitted. The high level of interest shows that entrepreneurs are willing to invest in zero-emission vehicles. The AanZET scheme is therefore an important incentive for making freight transport more sustainable and helps achieve the climate targets. Moreover, the upcoming zero-emission zones in cities provide additional motivation to make the switch to electric transport now.
AanZET Scheme Keeps the Transition Moving
“As a sector, we are ready to accelerate the shift toward zero-emission trucks,” says Jeroen de Liefde, Section Manager Heavy Commercial Vehicles at RAI Vereniging. “Manufacturers have the products, customers are showing strong interest, and the AanZET scheme is a tremendous support in making it happen.”
Rogier van de Garde, Chairman of the Heavy Commercial Vehicles Section, adds: “It’s positive that €78 million has been made available for the first application round. The expanded eligibility rules and the option to postpone delivery in case of longer build times are well aligned with real-world conditions. Clear parameters like these make it much more feasible for transport companies to take the step toward electric mobility.”
Key Changes for AanZET 2026
Compared to AanZET 2025, several important adjustments have been made:
- Clarification of the sales price: The sales price is now defined excluding the bodywork on the truck chassis, making prices between manufacturers more comparable.
- New subsidy ceiling: A subsidy ceiling for 2026 has been added to the scheme, allowing the current budget allocation to be tracked via the RVO website. Applicants can therefore gain faster insight into the remaining budget.
- More flexible application procedure: On the first and second day of the application period, one application may be submitted for a maximum of two vehicles; from the third day onward, one application may include up to ten vehicles.
- Extended determination period: The final subsidy determination must be submitted within 12 months after the subsidy is granted, with the possibility of an additional 12-month extension in cases of longer vehicle build times.
