Interregional Hydrogen Mobility Initiative for Europe — connecting seven regions to build a clean, zero-emission mobility ecosystem.

General Information about the Project

IH-MIE – Interregional Hydrogen Mobility Initiative for Europe

IH-MIE is a European initiative focused on accelerating the adoption of hydrogen as a clean fuel within the mobility sector. The project aims to stimulate innovation in hydrogen mobility, strengthen regional cooperation and create a sustainable ecosystem in which hydrogen solutions become widely accessible to companies and regions across Europe. The IH-MIE website emphasizes that the project is dedicated to connecting regions, knowledge institutions, clusters and enterprises that are jointly working towards a future-proof, zero-emission mobility system.

Project objectives

The central objective of IH-MIE is to establish an interregional structure that enables the development, application and scaling of hydrogen mobility solutions. By organising collaboration between various European regions, the project seeks to overcome fragmentation and establish a coherent approach to the introduction of hydrogen in transport and mobility.

The initiative focuses on strengthening innovation capacity and enabling new investments in hydrogen technologies. It aims to build a shared foundation of knowledge, expertise and infrastructure that allows regions to support each other in the transition toward clean mobility.

Approach and methodology

IH-MIE is developing a Hydrogen Mobility Interregional Hub. This hub serves as a central platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange and coordination between the participating regions. Its purpose is to connect partners from different areas so they can jointly develop projects that contribute to the scaling and practical implementation of hydrogen mobility.

A key part of the project’s approach is supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. The IH-MIE website makes clear that the initiative is committed to helping companies develop new hydrogen applications and bring them closer to market. This includes providing guidance, support and access to relevant networks and investment opportunities.

European context

IH-MIE positions itself as an initiative that strengthens European cooperation in the field of clean mobility. By linking regions with varying levels of development and expertise, the project contributes to more balanced growth in hydrogen mobility across Europe. Its long-term ambition is to establish hydrogen as a key pillar of a zero-emission mobility system.

Significance for the sector

IH-MIE provides a clear framework for companies, knowledge institutions and public authorities that wish to contribute to the development of hydrogen mobility. By creating an interregional cooperation platform, the project enables new opportunities for innovation, demonstration activities and accelerated market uptake of hydrogen solutions. In doing so, IH-MIE supports the broader transformation towards a more sustainable European mobility sector.
